The MOST Compelling Opt-In Video I’ve Ever Come Across

GREAT question came in today from Jules:

“David, I’ve got an upcoming product launch and was curious if you knew of any examples of REALLY COMPELLING (and awesome) opt-in videos? Also, what are some of the key things I should include in my video?”

Ah Jules, Jules, Jules, Jules – what a FANTASTICAL question. I’ve got you (and everyone else with this question) covered.

In fact, recently I was just messing around on Facebook (probably staring at photos or something) when I came across a link leading to an opt-in video. I had no idea who the guy was in the video, but in less than one minute he had me hooked and I opted-in faster than you can say (insert joke here). It is, without a doubt, one of the most compelling opt-in videos I’ve ever seen and we can all learn a ton from it.

So, in today’s quick DSG TV, I show you this video and break it down so you (and Jules) can steal these ideas. And make sure to let me know in the comments section what YOU think. Did it pique your curiosity? What are some of your favorite opt-in vids?

Great video D! I love the breakdown. You should do more vids like this. Awesome stuff!

    That optin was awesome.

That video certainly got my attention and I would definitely optin just to get the answer.

The issue is that (in my experience) the quality of the list might not be so good. I’ve tested many different optins in the model train niche (made $300k+), and a similar optin to this example got me a crazy high optin rate, but the sales generated per subscriber over 90 days was less than a quarter of those from a list where I gave them the answer and then asked them to optin if they wanted more.

At the end of the day it’s not the optin rate that’s important, but the quality of the list and the $ generated per subscriber over a 90 day period (or the amount of time it takes for your emails to get to the high priced product).

    Great example though David.

Interesting, thought Ian. I agree. Size + Quality = Win. What makes you think it is a low quality list? Is it because the video is so quick?

I don’t think its necessarily the length of the video. In fact, that was one of the most compelling factors. I think the reason for the low customer conversion lies in WHY someone opted in in the first place. A lot of people probably opted in JUST to find out the answer to this question – not because they are necessarily interested in fitness lifestyle products.

David, you said yourself – you opted in without even thinking about it because you were intrigued. Did you stay on the list? Do you see yourself buying related products in the future? Probably not.

I’ve found that though tempting people with free ebooks, an answer to a compelling question, etc. can be a useful strategy, you need to be careful to make sure you aren’t attracting individuals who won’t unsubscribe as soon as they’ve “gotten what they came for.”

Great points, I’m on the list right now, have not bought anything

I had saved this in my inbox cause the subject of ‘compelling opt in video’ was of interest to me. Didn’t know the topic of weight lifting was in there. So I benefited on two accounts. Great counsel on why it’s a great opt in. AND…great counsel from the guy cause I’m doing exactly what he was talking about…the wrong way. I’m 75 days into weight lifting and had significant change, but now will implement what this dude is saying. Thanks David.

I wonder what was used to create this opt-in page?
