Tony Horton on His Keys to Success, Motivation, and the Shifts that Took P90X From “Meh” to 500 Million in Sales

You know I love sharing interviews with you with all my guests, but you also know some are like “HOLYYYYYYY $&!T”. I call these interviews the “Oh doctah” interviews.

This is one of those.

I was able to track down the creator of P90X, Tony Horton, and grill him for you guys on the show about the following topics:

  • His keys to success.
  • What SPECIFICALLY made P90X so successful.
  • How P90X stuck out in the extremely crowded fitness (and informercial) market.
  • The key “small” shifts Tony made to get P90X from an OK product to over 500 million in sales.
  • His biggest mistake with P90X (what he would do differently).
  • How he continues to stay motivated and take on new projects.
  • …and more

This interview can’t (and shouldn’t) be missed. Enjoy, and see you in the comments. Make sure to leave some love for Tony!

    • David Siteman Garland

BH – Happy to share that story soon. In fact, I’m working on some cool new stuff next year that is related to sharing things like this (behind the scenes)

Hey man, just curious on what is up with the headphones? I noticed a couple interviews lately where you are wearing them. Is there a specific reason for that.

    • David Siteman Garland

Just so I can hear myself and the guest better. And I like just using earbuds as opposed to the big ass headphones I used to have that made me look like a space alien

  • Scott Haase

Love P90X have done it a few times and love Tony’s enthusiasm in all aspects. Enthusiasm never gets old and you can’t get enough of it. Always trying to spread the enthusiasm, but I think I am also going to start seeking out more enthusiastic people to surround myself with, I could use a few more I think. Following Tony on facebook now, trying to fill my news feed up with good stuff to say the least.

    • David Siteman Garland

Totally agree. I love enthusiasm too, hah. GREAT point.

  • Jason Gracia

Awesome interview, David! Been doing P90X for a year and a half and love it. Really interesting to get the back story of the program and incredibly helpful to get into the mind of its creator.

    • David Siteman Garland

      Glad you enjoyed JG

    David,

This interview makes me want to go workout. :) No seriously, I think the idea of evolving a marketing and branding strategy comes through loud and clear here and the biggest message seems to be that you need to have a message that makes you stand apart. Thanks for the interview and congrats for hitting front page on the BizSugar community!

    • David Siteman Garland

Thanks Heather! I’m off to the gym too haha
