Beginning his career in the surf apparel industry after graduating early from UCLA with a degree in Business Economics with a Communications emphasis in 1996, Matt Meyerson immediately took to the concept of mixing branding with Hollywood. Working at various surf industry companies, Matt used his Rolodex to bring beach culture to Hollywood testing the waters with product placements and cross marketing initiatives. During the dot com boom Matt moved from the Velcro Valley to L.A. to fund several tech start ups including one for the graphic arts community and another for musicians. In the process, his love for surfing was a catalyst for him to co-found a non-profit called The Groundswell Society, where he ran operations and marketing for 6 years.

In 2005 he was given an opportunity to start and run a new division as Sr. V.P. of Product Placement at BWR Public Relations in Beverly Hills, an Ogilvy PR Worldwide Company. For almost 4 years Matt worked on placing products in countless high profile films, tv shows, music videos, publications, websites and on A list celebrities. While at BWR, Matt also handled numerous high profile celebrity endorsements, sponsorships, brand launches and branded entertainment initiatives. Matt quickly forged a niche in fashion and was known as a go to source for emerging premium labels.

In 2008, Matt decided to venture off on his own to start his own company, RPRT Communications. RPRT is a hybrid agency whose core competencies include film/tv production, talent/athlete management, event production (they currently produce Expose NY, a twice yearly fashion showcase during NY Fashion Week geared towards the media and stylists) and brand consulting. In a little over a year RPRT has amassed one of the best action sports athlete rosters and has a handful of film and TV projects in various states of production.

In this interview, Matt tells his story with the hope of inspiring all of us entrepreneurs regardless of your background or experience. He has been able to find a VERY specific niche to dominate and has some great tips and ideas for all of us. Links Mentioned: rprt (Matt’s company) You can also hunt down Matt on Twitter. What about you? What is your niche? Are you going big by focusing small? RISE Sponsors Are Pretty Much The Greatest In The Whole World: Johnny Londoff Chevrolet: You know the deal. Just mention RISE when you walk in, call in or click in and you get supplier pricing. No haggling (and you don’t need to just be in St. Louis for this deal). Screenflow: I use Screenflow to turn my computer into shows and shoot the intros for RISE. Sort of like having… Read More
