Scott Kurtz is best known as the creator of the popular webcomic PvPonline. Kurtz attended the University of North Texas where his daily strip Captain Amazing appeared for four semesters in the college paper. He then moved on to create online strips Tales from the Tavern, Wedlock and Samwise, which earned him his first online audiences and gained him notice in the computer gaming industry. Player Versus Player or PvP debuted on May 4, 1998 and has run ever since. In June of 1999, Kurtz retooled the strip, and re-launched it as version 2.0.

PvPonline has also been quite active in the other mediums. Dork Storm published six issues of original content and in March 2003, Image Comics began publishing a monthly print comic book collection of the strip that combines old strips with new material. Between 2007 and 2008 12 episodes of the PvPonline animated series were released on the Internet. It has since been released on DVD.

Kurtz also works on Blamimations with Kris Straub, creator of Chainsaw Suit and Starslip.

The Innovative Cartoonist: How Scott Kurtz Turned A Passion For Drawing Into A Booming Business

Click Here If You Prefer Audio Only About Today’s Guest, Scott Kurtz: Scott Kurtz was introduced to me by former guest, Gary Arndt. Part of Gary’s email said this: “Scott is an Eisner and Harvey award winning cartoonist. He has been drawing PvP for over a decade and has been the leading voice in the industry. He has a great podcast and co-wrote the book on webcomics. He has been a leader in helping creators profit from their work. I think Scott would be a great guest for the show, and it would probably be one the best shows you’ve ever done.“ I couldn’t agree more with Gary. This is one of the longest interviews I’ve ever done on the show because I was just enthralled by Scott. He has an amazing story, a rise to success that went against the traditional path, and is just an interesting guy to boot. Enjoy!
